Riccardo Maccabruni
Babylon
(Riccardo Maccabruni)

I was born in Babylon,
raised up in one of its suburbs,
where people always knew exactly what to do
and no one seemed to care
where his life was leading to.
They told us beyond the fog the sky is blue
and life it’s just
another challenge to get through.

And there’s a nice price for the first
at the end of the hardest race
but soon you’ll find out that your days are gone
and they won’t leave a trace.

Now I hope that
we will find our way,
as the night resigns to dawn,
for so long
I’ve been awake
I can’t stand it anymore.

You’ve dried off the water where love was written on
even if I was sure that it was carved out of stone.
But the pain will remain
cause it was tattooed in flames,
and breeded by the breeze
where I did look for relieve.

We are hungry of experience
and thirsty of dreams
but in time we all starve to convenience
in the bed of a dried up stream.

Now I hope that
we will find our way,
as the night resigns to dawn,
for so long
I’ve been awake
I can’t stand it anymore.

Now I hope that
we will find our place
back to where we do belong.
For so long
I’ve been away
I can’t find it anymore.
